ABOUT THE ECZEMA STORE

The Eczema Store is a project started by long-time eczema sufferer, Catherine Lux, in 2018. After suffering from sensitive skin and eczema since she was a baby, she has spent the past fifteen years testing out numerous ‘recommended’ products for eczema and sensitive skin sufferers, and has finally found the products that truly work and don’t cause eczema flare-ups. Some are products by major well-known brands, and others are from small local businesses. The Eczema Store is for all races, all genders, and all skin types. If you think we’re missing anything or haven’t featured a brand that should be on here, drop us a message.

Catherine's key aim with The Eczema Store is to help others who suffer from sensitive skin and dry skin conditions (eczema in particular) to find products that are truly natural and won't irritate their skin, cause allergic reactions, or eczema flare-ups. She also hopes her guides, FAQs, and blog posts can help educate and provide a support and community for those suffering from eczema and sensitive skin.

Catherine’s Eczema Story

Catherine has focused on using organic and natural beauty products since 2012 when she had a major flare-up of eye and face eczema, which was documented on her blog, Lux Life London (you can read that eye eczema post here). The flare-up went on for months, and saw her wake up daily with her eyes swollen shut, the skin on her eyelids was so raw and dry that the skin would fall onto her eyelashes and cheeks throughout the day, and the skin around her eyes was bright red. Every day Catherine would go to work with her head down trying to hide her face, and her confidence plummeted.

Sadly no product would work, and even steroid hydrocortisone cream from the doctor didn’t fix the issue. Finally Catherine found the Dr Organic Manuka Honey Rescue Cream, and within days her eczema had completely cleared up. Six years on she continues to use this cream for flare-ups, but has also found a couple more great products that also get rid of her eye eczema in case she runs out of the Manuka Honey Rescue Cream or it gets discontinued!

The Shift To Organic And Natural Products

It was the eye eczema flare-up that pushed Catherine to look into organic and natural beauty products. After extensive research she discovered that there are dozens of harsh chemicals and ingredients in products that can cause sensitive skin to flare-up into eczema outbreaks.

She decided to carry out a process of elimination, and over a number of months figured out which products and chemicals flared-up her eczema. The key ingredient for her personally was talc in eye-shadows, and Sodium Lareth/Lauryl Sulphate (SLES/SLS) in shampoo and hair products. She also continued to get flare-ups whenever she used liquid eyeliner on a daily basis, so now saves it for special occasions!

Catherine is really passionate about organic beauty products, and is desperate for brands to stop ‘Greenwashing’ as it causes so much misinformation and issues for those who have sensitive skin and allergies.

The Eczema Store’s Current Model & Future

You may notice that currently we don’t sell products on the website, and that you have to click through to an official retailer to purchase. We’re hoping this will change at some point in the future and that we’ll be selling products directly from the website, but as the project is so new and such a baby, we need to carry out a ‘proof of concept’ first with the affiliate format.

Every time you click through to the official retailer and make a purchase, we receive a very small amount (literally pennies/cents) in return, which costs you – the buyer – absolutely nothing extra. The retailer pays this money to us. However, we’re not actually implementing an affiliate model to earn the money, rather we’re using it for the tracking abilities so we can then go to the manufacturers and brands and show them that we can successfully sell the products ourselves via this website.

Please note, the only data available to us through the affiliate format will be the amount of clicks to each retailer from each page, whether something was purchased, and how many sales were made. At no point will we ever be able to see individual buyer information – so don’t panic!
