7 Best Makeup Products for Eczema Prone Skin

best makeup for eczema and sensitive skin

As many of you will know if you’ve read My Struggle With Eye Eczema, I’ve suffered from eczema on my eyes for several years. Since I was a baby I’ve suffered with eczema on my body (usually on my wrists, crook of my elbow, and behind my knees), but when I was around 14 years old I also started getting eczema around my eyes.

The flare-up on my eyes coincided with me experimenting and using a fair amount of skincare and makeup products, and over the past ten years I’ve been on the hunt for organic and natural makeup products that I can use on my face that don’t flare up or irritate my skin. So, I thought I’d share them with you…

1. Foundation – Lavera Natural Liquid Foundation

My favourite natural foundation is the simply named, Natural Liquid Foundation from Lavera.

I use this as a light coverage every day foundation, and I find it provides the best coverage if you use a foundation brush to apply it, and then buff it in using circular motions with a buffing brush. I tried using a beauty blender/sponge to apply it, but wasn’t a huge fan of this as I felt as though a lot of the foundation just soaked into the sponge.

This foundation is Cruelty Free, Gluten-Free, NaTrue Certified Natural, and Vegan. It contains no parabens, mineral oils, or heavy metals.

2. Powder – Nude by Nature Pressed Mineral Cover

I use this as a powder on top of my Lavera foundation, even though it’s technically a foundation by itself. I find it just gives an extra bit of coverage on days when I want to have a higher level of coverage. I’ve been using this for years now and always repurchase whenever I go back to Australia.

I recommend buying the travel sized version first just to see if you like it, because the full-sized version is pricey!

3. Blusher – Inika Mineral Blusher

I loveeeee this blusher! It’s super easy to apply and to build up to a colour and coverage you’re happy with. What I love about mineral blushers is how easy it is to have a really light daytime shade or a darker shade for going out at night because they’re so buildable.

As you’ll find in this post, I adore Inika. They’re such a brilliant brand and I just find their products perfect for my eye eczema-prone skin. This blusher is certified organic, vegan, halal, cruelty-free, and suitable for sensitive skin. It contains no parabens or harsh chemicals.

4. Mascara – Lavera Trend Intense Volumising Mascara

Ahh mascaras. Daytime I use Lavera, and night time when going out I use Benefit They’re Real (which makes my lashes feel SO gross, but I just love how it makes them look too much). I tend to use all organic products during the day, and then when I go for a night out I’ll use non-organic products just because I want a much much higher level of coverage.

Organic products are great for a natural daytime look, but I haven’t really found any that match up to the standard drugstore brands in terms of coverage. I just make sure I limit how often I use drugstore brands and always make sure I remove it as soon as I get home.

This mascara is Cruelty Free, Gluten-Free, NaTrue Certified Natural, and Vegan. It contains no parabens, mineral oils, or heavy metals.

5. Liquid Eyeliner – Bourjois Volume Clubbing Eyeliner

Now, this isn’t technically organic, however I’ve tried sooooo many organic liquid eyeliners and I just can’t find one I like (I can’t stand the Lavera, Inika, or B. ones). This Bourjois eyeliner is the next best thing, and it is ah-mazing.

I use it on my eyelids, and I tell myself that because it sits on top of a layer of natural foundation and natural eyeshadows it’s ok to use 😉 also Bourjois is an OK brand as at least they don’t use any parabens in their products and are 100% cruelty free.

6. Pencil Eyeliner – Inika Mineral Eyeliner

Hands down my favourite eyeliner, it has a really lovely creamy consistency which makes application super easy. It stays on for a decent length of time without needing to reapply (unlike those pesky Rimmel kohl eyeliners).

I personally use ‘Black Caviar’ for night time use when I’m going out, and ‘Coco’ during the daytime when I want a less dramatic look.

The Inika eyeliner is certified organic, vegan, halal, cruelty-free, and suitable for sensitive skin. It contains no parabens or harsh chemicals.

7. Eyeshadow – Inika Mineral Eyeshadow

Yep, more Inika products. Inika eyeshadows are amazing, and I absolutely love them! They come in a variety of gorgeous colours, are perfect for sensitive eyes, and last all day (or night).

My favourite shades are ‘Whisper’, ‘Peach Fetish’ and ‘Thunder’. I’ve been using them for years and they’ve never flared my eczema up.

Every so often I use the Urban Decay Naked 2 eyeshadow palette, and every time I use it the skin on my eyelids gets super dry and I regret it majorly the next day and go back to the Inika eyeshadows.

The key is to find eyeshadows that don’t contain Talc or Mica (which Urban Decay eyeshadows do contain), as these two ingredients are what dries out the skin, making the eczema worse, and they’re used in the vast majority of eyeshadows that are sold.

The Inika eyeshadows are certified organic, vegan, halal, cruelty-free, and suitable for sensitive skin. It contains no parabens or harsh chemicals.

Lavera and Inika are definitely my favourite go-to organic/natural makeup brands, I really love them both and find most of their products suit my skin and don’t flare my eye eczema up.

I am yet to find an organic/natural primer that I like, so please let me know in the comments if you’ve found a decent organic primer, and/or a decent organic liquid eyeliner!
