The Best Natural Deodorant: Nuud Deodorant Review

Nuud Deodorant review

It’s been about four years since I first started testing out natural deodorants that are aluminium free. I first started switching my beauty products to natural/organic in 2012, and it’s been a slow process to find a deodorant that I’m happy with.

The best one I found before Nuud deodorant was a spray that would drip down the side of my body after application. All of the others I tried would leave me smelling by the middle of the day, or they would work but not last if I did any heavy exertion like go to the gym or do housework etc. Then I finally found Nuud thanks to a targeted Instagram ad (I never thought I would be grateful for an Instagram ad).

After over a year of constant use, I thought it was about time I write a full review of my Nuud deodorant experience and answer any questions you guys have about it! But the tl;dr is: I love it so much I can’t stop recommending it to everyone I know.

Is Nuud deodorant safe?

Yep! Nuud deodorant is perfectly safe, and does not contain any aluminium, parabens, petrochemicals, alcohol, salts, cheap perfume, or other nasty chemicals that can damage your body.

Is Nuud deodorant vegan and eco-friendly?

Nuud deodorant is completely vegan and cruelty free, with no testing on animals 🙂 It also comes in an eco-friendly tube made out of bioplastic sugarcane, and all of the packaging it arrives in is sustainable (it arrives in a biodegradable cardboard box).

Does Nuud have any kind of scent?

Nope! Nuud deodorant has no scent at all so it’s great if you have problems with skin sensitivities to fragrances or you have problems with scented products. For example, if you’re pregnant and struggling with nausea and scented products (I struggled massively with this when I was pregnant), Nuud deodorant is literally the perfect solution to remove one of the key scented culprits.

How does Nuud deodorant work?

Nuud deodorant contains something called micro silver, which neutralises the bacteria and stops the bad smell. Depending on the person it can last up to 7 days between applications, but I’m quite a sweaty person *ahem*, so I have to use it every other day. Roughly 48 hours after application I notice a definite smell under my pits!

Is Nuud an antiperspirant?

Nope! Antiperspirant is actually not great for your body as it blocks your sweat glands and can cause you to sweat more from ‘other’ places (like your groin…attractive). It’s better to let your skin breathe and let mother nature’s natural air-con system work the way it’s supposed to!

How to use and apply Nuud deodorant

Nuud deodorant is a super concentrated white cream, and you just need a pea-sized amount of product for each armpit because of the concentration. Simply squeeze a small amount from the tube and rub it under your clean/freshly washed and dried armpits until the area is covered. Because the Nuud deodorant is so concentrated you’ll need to wash your fingers thoroughly after applying, but the deodorant doesn’t clog your skin or stain your clothing. It can also survive bathing, showering, and sweating, so you don’t need to worry about reapplying until you start smelling a bit funky.

What about the Nuud detox period/did you notice any smell?

I personally didn’t experience a detox period with Nuud deodorant, but I think that’s because I had been using natural deodorants for 3 years prior, so I didn’t have any aluminium or nasties to get out of my system. I know many people do experience a detox period of 2+ weeks though – *especially* if they’ve been using antiperspirant for a long time. Nuud deodorant worked straight away for me, and for the past year that I’ve been using it I’ve had to use it every other day just because I’m quite a sweaty person (I always have been ever since I was a kid – my parents always used to joke about my sweaty hands :/ haha).

Does it cause any irritation/is it good for sensitive skin?

I have super sensitive skin and eczema which is why I switched to organic deodorants in the first place. I was using Dove deodorant and it started causing really bad skin irritation and redness under my arms. Thankfully I haven’t experienced anything like this with Nuud deodorant – I get absolutely no irritation or stinging from it whatsoever.

How long does a tube of Nuud deodorant last?

I find each tube of Nuud deodorant lasts about 4 months, but that’s with me using it every other day. It will obviously last much longer if you can go 3-4 days between uses.

Where can I buy Nuud deodorant?

You can buy Nuud deodorant here. It costs around £13 for one tube, or £24 for the ‘smarter pack’ of two tubes. It’s definitely pricier than normal deodorant, but I honestly think it’s well worth it for the sustainability of the brand, and the fact it’s cruelty free and much better for you and your body.

Overall Verdict of Nuud deodorant

I was worried when I first started using Nuud deodorant because of the very mixed reviews, but I honestly love Nuud deodorant and haven’t used anything else for over a year now. It works really well for me and is perfect for my sensitive skin and eczema-prone skin. I’m never using another deodorant ever again!
