Is Cetaphil Good for Eczema?

Cetaphil products have been popular for a long-time with people who suffer from sensitive skin and eczema. The brand is often hailed as being recommended and trusted by dermatologists, but does it actually work for those with eczema?

While some of their products are hypoallergenic and free of Fragrance, Nickel, Top Common Allergy Causing Preservatives, Lanolin, Paraben, Topical Antibiotic, MCI/MI, Propylene Glycol, Dye, and SLS. Unfortunately, their products do contain irritants such as Citric Acid Ceteareth-20 (a Level 3 irritant on the INCI Decoder site), and Cetyl Alcohol, which although isn’t a drying type of alcohol, it’s a Level 2 irritant, which is not good for many with sensitive skin and eczema.

Strangely, the Cetaphil Pro Eczema Wash is probably one of their worst possible products for eczema, as one of the key ingredients is Sodium Trideceth Sulfate, a harsh detergent found in cleansing gels that’s extremely drying and irritating to the skin. Anyone with sensitive skin should be completely avoiding any kind of sulfates, not just Sodium Laureth Sulfate.

I have found that even their eczema lotion actually stings my skin, which is never a good sign with a skincare product.

The Best Alternatives to Cetaphil

My absolute favourite alternatives to Cetaphil are the MooGoo products. They’re much gentler and much more suitable for those with sensitive skin and eczema sufferers.
